Can I use a bike crank without welding?

I'm trying to build a wooden pedal kart and wondering if creating a bike style crank setup instead of the usual push pedal design will work? I made a crank from scratch, but it's a bit clunky so I'm thinking of swapping in one from an old BMX I used for the wheels.

I want to get the rear wheel aligned with the crank without welding, is this possible? Thinking a center pedal plus live axle setup might be the way to go. Thoughts?

Yeah, you can totally do that but it'll take some clever bracketry and alignment work, to avoid welding, look into using pillow block bearings and mounting plates to hold your live axle, seems quite plausible and smart

A center crank to live axle setup can work well if you use pillow block bearings and chain tensioners to keep everything in line and the key thing is keeping the chain straight and snug between the crank and the axle
