As part of a college project I’m planning to build a lightweight go kart specifically for drifting. I have no prior experience so I’m seeking advice on whether to use a 3 or 4 wheel setup if two 8 hp moped engines can be used together whether to create my own design plans and what type of suspension would work best. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Go with 4 wheels, they are more stable for drifting and the two 8hp engines can work, but syncing them will be tricky but if you really wanna do this, design it yourself so everything fits your plan

Thanks!! Yeah ive been thinking a lot, 4 wheels do make more sense in drifting, and I guess i thougt right.. Thanks for the clarity.

Running dual 8hp engines is doable but @Tukura's right, syncing them can get tricky. have you thought about going with just one to start? And for suspension, something simple like a swing arm or coilovers could work well if you keep the kart light.

Sorry, just one what? Engine? Yeah thought about it, but me and my partner decided to go with 2 for power and speed
