Posting for my father who is 67 and recently got the itch to try karting after watching me race. He's tall and thin, has some racing experience in cars, but never tried karts. He had major surgery a few years ago and wants to find a way to stay safe and comfortable while karting. What setup should I work on for him?

Awesome he's giving it a go! For comfort and safety, get him a roomy chassis with adjustable pedals and a well padded seat, or maybe even a seat insert for extra support. Rib protectors are a must, and starting with a 4-stroke class will keep things fun without being too rough on him.

Maybe you can start by giving him more legroom look at an XL chassis or extended front porch kit and a seat with a more reclined backrest. Keep the seat as low as possible. A bit of memory foam padding. And yes, like what @KodakBlck said, a good rib protector too

I don't want to disappoint, but maybe get him to rest after a surgery. You raced karts, you know it's not ballet, so you wouldn't want him to complicate an already complicated situation. If he's insisting, then make sure the wound is well protected and don't forget the safety equipment.
