A simple guide i'd like to share

If you're building an electric go-kart, stick with DC motors and avoid AC motors. While AC motors are used in electric cars, they require complex, expensive control systems to handle the massive surge current needed to start under load. AC motors from household appliances like washing machines or power tools are unsuitable due to their high voltage (90-120v) and low power. The best motors for a DIY kart are low-voltage DC motors (24v or 36v) from sources like golf carts, forklifts or large truck starters. While overvolting can provide more power, be cautious, as it can cause the motor to overheat and burn out. For safety and performance , do not use more than 48v, as this is a good balance between power and battery weight. The best way to control the motor is with a DC motor controller, with golf cart controllers being an excellent and reliable option. Avoid simple on/off switches, as they can be dangerous due to high current. Lastly, use deep-discharge batteries like those from electric scooters or wheelchairs, never use standard car batteries, which are designed for short bursts of high power and will be permanently damaged by the continuous draw of a go-kart. Short solid advice here. DC motors and golf cart controllers really are the sweet spot for DIY karts, simple, safe, and plenty of torque without overcomplicating things. Kudos

Depends on what you need and how much you wanna pay but the batterie and motor are the most expencive part. You can get a chasis for a couple of hundred bucks in a good shape
